Female wellness is an extremely complex area of study because of the hormonal changes that occur from the onset of menses through menopause. One of the major keys to overall wellness is to maintain hormone balance at the various stages of a woman’s life; that has been demonstrated to improve both its quality and length.
Hormones are affected by nutrition, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, detoxification, immune function, inflammation, digestion and absorption, microbiology, and structural integrity. The environment, diurnal variation, nutritional deficiencies, relationships, thought processes, stress levels, environmental toxins, and medications also affect them.
If a woman presents with a hormone imbalance, its cause must be determined by evaluating all of the above factors. Simply replacing a deficient hormone without determining the cause of the deficiency will not resolve the problem and may have an adverse effect on the woman’s quality and length of life.
